Native Bubble actions for image alt text

WriteAlt for Bubble

Generate multilingual image alt text in Bubble with native workflow actions. Save generation jobs, retrieve descriptions, and connect saved results to your image ALT tags.

The Bubble plugin is free to install. A WriteAlt account, API key, and credits are required for generation.

Connect an uploader event, create the image record, and pass its URL into Process Uploaded Image.
  • Free Bubble plugin installation
  • Private API key setting
  • Save results in your Bubble database

Connect WriteAlt to a Bubble image workflow

Start with a single image. Configure the uploader or image record, save the generation job, and connect the finished description to the image element.

1. Install the plugin and connect your account

Install the free plugin from the Bubble marketplace. In Bubble Editor -> Plugins -> WriteAlt, enter your WriteAlt API key in the private writealt_api_key setting. Use the separate development value for testing.

  1. Get your key from the WriteAlt dashboard API settings and confirm the account has generation credits.
  2. Keep the key in plugin settings rather than exposing it in a page or public database field.

2. Connect an upload or image record

Create an image-bearing database record with fields for the image, alt_text, and writealt_job_id. Connect the uploader value-changed event, or a workflow for an existing record, to the image URL you want to describe.

  1. Supply the image direct, accessible URL to Process Uploaded Image or Start Alt Text Generation.
  2. For a new generation, start with an empty Job ID. Choose languages, writing style, and optional context.
  3. Images must be reachable by WriteAlt. A local path, CSV download link, or Google Sheet link is not an image URL.

3. Save the Job ID and check the same job

Save the returned job_id immediately on the original image record. Schedule a paced check of that same saved Job ID until the response indicates that the alt text is ready.

  1. With Process Uploaded Image, check the same saved job until ok and ready are yes.
  2. Keep the image and Job ID together so the finished result updates the correct record.
  3. Preserve existing descriptions. Do not automatically resubmit a pending or ambiguous job; check its saved ID first.

4. Save the description and bind the ALT tag

When generation finishes, save the returned alt_text to your Bubble image record. In the image element settings, bind the ALT tag to that saved field.

  1. Review the description in the context where the image appears.
  2. Confirm that the database record is updated and the displayed image uses the saved ALT value.
  3. Installation alone does not save descriptions or update image elements. Your Bubble workflow performs those steps.

5. Build a paced bulk workflow

Map image records with Prepare Image List, or provide CSV contents to Parse Image CSV. Submit small batches, save their Job IDs, and retrieve the results before marking records complete.

  1. For database images, configure a private backend workflow for one record and schedule it on a filtered list of records missing alt text, with an interval to pace requests.
  2. Each app builder maps the relevant image data types and save workflows. The plugin does not discover unrelated database types, static images, or unlinked File Manager uploads.
  3. A CSV or Google Sheet link is not processed directly. Supply parsed or mapped data through the configured workflow.
  4. The single-image generation and saved ALT tag have been live-tested. Bulk actions have automated tests, but the full bulk flow has not yet been live-tested in a Bubble app. Test a small collection before expanding.

6. Add the optional Media Manager

Place the Media Manager in an app page to review rendered images or an explicitly mapped database library. Connect its save requests to the appropriate Bubble workflows.

  1. The Media Manager is an app-page component, not a right-click command or extension for the Bubble design editor.
  2. Limit the mapped records to images the current user is allowed to view and update.
  3. WriteAlt credits and Bubble workload usage apply to the workflows you configure.
Install, map your images, save the Job ID, check the same job, and bind the saved description to ALT. Bulk processing requires a configured, paced workflow; it does not happen automatically after installation.

Bring image descriptions into your Bubble app

Connect your image uploads and database records to native workflow actions. Your app decides which images to process, where to save the descriptions, and how to display them.

NativeBubble workflow actions

Generate from an image URL

Use Process Uploaded Image or Start Alt Text Generation with a direct image URL that WriteAlt can access.

Keep track of each job

Save the returned Job ID and check that same job until its description is ready. Keep the job associated with the original image record.

Choose languages and style

Generate descriptions in up to 10 languages per image, with five writing styles and optional context.

Prepare lists and CSV data

Prepare Image List and Parse Image CSV help turn explicitly mapped image records or CSV contents into inputs for configured bulk workflows.

Review a mapped image library

Use the optional Media Manager to review images on the current app page or records you explicitly map from the Bubble database.

Check account information

Check available WriteAlt credits and supported languages when preparing your app generation workflow.

From an uploaded image to a saved ALT tag

Native actions handle generation while your Bubble workflows keep image records and display settings connected.

1

Pass the image URL

Connect your uploader or an existing image record to a WriteAlt generation action.

2

Save and check the job

Keep the returned Job ID and poll that same job at a paced interval.

3

Store the finished text

Save the returned description to the matching Bubble database record.

4

Bind the image ALT tag

Use the saved field as the image element ALT value and review it in context.

Connect the plugin in the editor, configure the upload workflow, and confirm that the description is saved on the image record.

Questions about Bubble

Here are the details most teams check before getting started.

Does installing WriteAlt automatically scan my Bubble app?

No. The app builder connects each uploader or image data type to Bubble workflows. The optional Media Manager reviews current-page images or an explicitly mapped library; it does not automatically discover every database type or image file.

How do I display the generated alt text?

Save the returned description in the matching Bubble database record, then bind the image element ALT tag to that field. Generation by itself does not configure the image element.

Why should I save the Job ID?

Generation is asynchronous. Save the returned Job ID immediately and check that same job until its result is ready. Resubmitting a pending or ambiguous job can duplicate generation.

Can I process lists and CSV data?

Yes, through mapped image lists, CSV contents, and configured batch workflows. Submit small batches, save Job IDs, and pace requests. A CSV download link or Google Sheet link is not processed directly.

Has the full bulk workflow been live-tested?

Single-image generation and the saved ALT tag have been live-tested. Bulk actions have automated tests, but the complete bulk flow has not yet been live-tested in a Bubble app. Test a few records before a larger run.

Is the plugin free?

The Bubble plugin is free to install. Generating descriptions requires a WriteAlt account, API key, and available credits. Bubble workload usage also applies to your configured workflows.

Does it add a right-click action in the Bubble editor?

No. WriteAlt provides native workflow actions and an optional Media Manager for app pages. It does not add a right-click command to the Bubble design editor.
