Does the Chrome extension work on any website?

It can scan images exposed by the current page. Some protected or browser-internal URLs cannot be accessed by extensions.

Can I use the same extension in Firefox?

Yes. Chrome and Firefox use the same WriteAlt workflow; only the browser installation page changes.
